Construction

All Merlin paddles have a high pressure carbon prepreg shaft that extends most of the way down the blade. This is the main load bearer making it very stiff and is carefully engineered and tested. Over this shaft is laminated the blade, this is a low temp wet layup system designed for flex and toughness.

By separating the construction of the shaft and blade the performance of both units can be maximised and the paddle has a consistent flex with a resulting predictability in the water.

The big difference between the CD2 and the TD2 is the blade construction. The TD2 uses a glass fibre blade where the CD2 is carbon. This makes the tip of the TD2 much more flexible which is not a bad thing especially if you have problems with your shoulder as it dramatically softens the stroke. It also ensures the TD2 is a very easy paddle to control, especially if you have poor lower hand strength.
